Is your hair breaking?

You Need Bond Building!

Any time your hair breaks, it means the internal bonds of your hair are weak. This can happen with natural wear and tear (when it's time for a haircut), extreme dryness, or elemental or heat styling damage, but most commonly it's the result of damage from chemical processes.

Getting into the science, the bond that is responsible for most of the strength and structure of the hair is called a disulfide or sulfur bond. When these bonds are broken (by physical or chemical stress) they turn into cysteic acid which breaks down protein and leaches moisture from the hair, resulting in damage and breakage.

Olaplex is the only true bond builder on the market. Its patented ingredient, Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate, reacts with the cysteic acid and artificially relinks disulfide bonds. Other beauty brands have come up with their own versions, but they only strengthen existing bonds or reduce damage during chemical services, not actually rebuild broken bonds.

Olaplex has 8 products, 2 professional use only and 6 take home products. Olaplex #1 has the highest concentration of Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate and is added directly to hair color and bleach, rebiluding bonds as they break so there is as little damage as possible. Olaplex #2 is a treatment cream which is applied after rinsing out the color to repair any bonds that may have been missed. I charge $35 to add Olaplex to any service (there is a stand alone version that can be done without color), with the exception of some services that already have it included (Global Blonde, Double Process Colors and Corrections).

It's good to note that if you have healthy hair to begin with, you may not notice a difference in the condition of your hair since it will simply be maintaining what you have. If you have extreme damage or dryness you will also need a strength and/or moisture treatment product to replace what has already been depleted.

All the Olaplex take home products are listed below, with tips and tricks on how to use! I do complementary delivery within Calgary on orders over $65.

You can't over use Olaplex!

Olaplex #0 and #3:

Intensive Bond Building Treatment and Bond Perfecter

Olaplex #3 is the single best selling beauty product in the world, and for good reason. It is a slightly less concentrated version of #2 designed to be a treatment to prevent and repair damaged bonds at home! On its own, you use it by wetting your hair BEFORE your shower, then towel drying and applying just enough to feel slippery and then let it sit for at least 5 minutes, THEN shampoo and condition. If you are someone who likes to air dry their hair, you can leave a small amount in your hair after you shower and let it dry in, since it works while wet.

Olaplex #0 intensifies the effects of #3, meant to be a slightly less strong version of the professional stand alone treatment. To use, apply the #0 to dry hair, then comb through the hair (tip: put a plastic bag in your bathroom sink and apply over it to catch any drippings!). Layer #3 over top and let sit for as long as you can, then shampoo and condition.

Olaplex #4 and #5

Bond Maintenance Shampoo and Conditioner

This shampoo and conditioner are formulated to not just repair bonds but to also strengthen and moisturize. Ideal for very damaged hair.

It is good to note that if there is ANY product or mineral build up in your hair, these products will not work properly and can feel very heavy.

Olaplex #6 and #7

Bond Smoother and Bonding Oil

The #6 is a  styling creme, heat protectant and anti frizz smoother with the patented bond building ingredient of course! It is extremely concentrated so you only need a small amount (size of a pea for average hair). Apply to towel dried hair and comb through. Store upside-down!

#7 is a moisturizing oil with heat protection and all day bond building on wet or dry hair. It also adds incredible shine!

Tip: Mix #6 with a couple drops of #7 to make it even more spreadable and add extra shine!
